11th Monday in Ordinary Time

An inspiring example

From today’s Scripture:  “Brothers and sisters: As your fellow workers, we appeal to you not to receive the grace of God in vain.” —2 Cor 6:1

The apostle Paul writes this letter to the fledgling Christian community in Corinth during a tumultuous time. The community is in danger of breaking apart and many lack trust in Paul’s leadership. Paul experiences many sufferings and rejections as a result, but continues to encourage the community through his letters.

We may experience suffering and rejection in our own lives as well—whether at work, amongst our friends and family, our parish community, or other places. It’s easy to become wrapped up in our sufferings during such times. We run the risk of failing to recognize the gifts received through God’s grace. Thankfully, we have the example of Paul to inspire us to continue ministering with love and enthusiasm, even in the midst of trials and rejection. May we always be open to receiving God’s grace, no matter the circumstances.

Let us pray: Loving God, I seek to always be open to the graces you so generously share with me. Like Paul, may I continue to use your gifts to encourage and minister to others, even in the midst of trials and rejection.
