Genuine love

From today’s Scripture: “I say this not by way of command, but to test the genuineness of your love by your concern for others.”—2 Cor 8:8
It’s easy to become wrapped up in our own problems and to-do lists in the busyness of everyday life. You may be concerned about your homework for school, your tasks at work, parenting, even your volunteering responsibilities. Rather than expressing love and concern for others, we turn inward and become stressed and absorbed with our concerns. Yet, this Scripture passage calls us to look beyond ourselves and our own worries.
As Christians, we are encouraged to love others—what better way to express genuine love of others than to offer accompaniment and assistance with their challenges?
Let us pray: Lord, help me to look beyond myself, beyond my own worries and priorities. Help me to cultivate a genuine love and concern for others as we walk life’s journey together.
