13th Monday in Ordinary Time

True love

From today’s Scripture: “Follow me, and let the dead bury their dead.” —Mt 8:22

There is so much to admire about the Glenmary missioners. I’m especially inspired by Glenmarians who have come all the way to the United States from Kenya or Uganda. I cannot comprehend how they have chosen to sacrifice living near families and friends to become missioners in the United States. But when I hear Jesus saying, “Follow me, and let the dead bury their dead,” I can think of no better inspiration than their sacrifice.

Our call to follow Jesus is just that, full of sacrifice. While sacrifice is a scary thought, it is one that follows love. Sacrifice is what reveals true and authentic love. What can we sacrifice to reveal our love for God today?

Let us pray: Lord, give me the spirit of a missioner. Help me to follow you in every way, even when you call for sacrifice from me, in whatever way you do. Give me your grace.
