Sharpen up!
From today’s Scripture: “‘I am sending you like sheep in the midst of wolves; so be shrewd as serpents and simple as doves.’” —Mt 10:16.
Hay que ser mansos, pero no mensos (“You have to be meek, but not stupid”), is a popular phrase in Latin America. And this Gospel passage seems to coincide. To a greater or lesser extent, God has given us talents to distinguish good from evil and not to fall victim to people or institutions that seek to abuse our good faith as Christians.
Let us pray: Holy Spirit, grant me the gift of wisdom to have the simplicity of the doves, while maintaining the pertinent precaution.
