Daily Reflection

16th Monday in Ordinary Time

Give us a sign

From today’s Scripture: “‘Teacher, we wish to see a sign from you.’” Mt 12:38

Today’s Scripture reminds me of the story of the woman seeking refuge from floodwaters, calling out to God for a miracle. God sends different people to rescue her, but she declines their help, unable to see the hand of God at work in the moment.

Do we doubt God, asking for a sign to prove his existence and faithfulness? Are we able to see the “small signs” of his presence in our day to day lives? Rather than ask for a sign, let us ask for the wisdom and opportunity to recognize the signs of Christ’s presence around us.

Let us pray: Christ the Teacher, may we learn to recognize your presence in ways large and small every day. Give us the wisdom to see with your eyes rather than our own.
