16th Tuesday in Ordinary Time

Be family.

From today’s Scripture: “Whoever does the will of my heavenly Father is my brother, and sister, and mother.”—Mt 12:50

In this passage we realize that Jesus recognizes his followers not as subjects, friends, or associates, but as family. We are members of his family and the greater Body of Christ. In our striving to follow the will of God and the example of Jesus, do we treat those we encounter as our brothers, sisters, and mothers? That isn’t easy.

As Pope Francis says, we are called to go out beyond the walls of our parish buildings, to encounter and serve Christ in the greater human family.

Let us pray: Lord, thank you for adopting us into your family. Help us to follow your example and treat those we encounter as family as well.
