Manna from the desert
From today’s Scripture: “In the morning a dew lay all about the camp, and when the dew evaporated, there on the surface of the desert were fine flakes like hoarfrost on the ground.”—Exodus 16:13-14
I like to sit in the front row for Mass. I like being able to hear clearly the words of the liturgy, especially during the Eucharistic Prayer, as the priest raises his hands and prays: “Make holy these gifts, we pray, by sending down Your spirit upon them like the dewfall.”
In that moment, I can imagine being an Israelite in the desert and having manna, God’s miracle food, showing up in the morning for me to eat. I can imagine being present at the Last Supper, when Jesus broke bread and shared it with his disciples. And I can say yes and Alleluia! as I receive the Eucharist, God’s miracle provision, the true Bread of Heaven, Jesus’ very body, broken and shared with me.
Let us pray: Bread of Heaven, nourish me and sustain me! I give you glory and thanksgiving for the gift of your great love to me.
