17th Thursday in Ordinary Time

Take care!

From today’s Scripture:  “How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord, mighty God!” (from Psalm 84, Responsorial Psalm)

During the extreme heat of summer, especially these days of record-breaking temperatures, it’s hard to remember how beautiful all of creation is. A whole lot of it we just haven’t taken good care of. What once was beautiful now is scarred and ugly.

But God’s creation is beautiful. Nature is constantly trying to reclaim that beauty. After the forest fires, trees are reborn. After pollutants are halted, nature begins to rebuild. That rebirth is a sign from God to each of us: marred as we are, God is constantly calling forth newness and beauty.

Let us pray: Lord, today let me stop and acknowledge the beauty of your handiwork. Let me see your gift in all creation—and show some respect for it.
