17th Wednesday in Ordinary Time

Giving it all

From today’s Scripture: “When he finds a pearl of great price, he goes and sells all that he has and buys it.” —Mt 13:46

He is worth it! Today Jesus uses some interesting comparisons. The Kingdom of Heaven is like a buried treasure, or a great pearl. Not only is the Kingdom a precious thing, but he tells us that it is SO great that to possess it we should be willing to give up everything else that we have!

That’s a challenge for us sometimes. We think, “Well if I can just keep these other things to myself, of course I want Jesus.” But that isn’t how it works. We are called to love the Lord with everything we have.

Let us pray: Lord, let me always remember that you are the pearl of great price. Help me be willing to forsake all else for you.
