18th Friday in Ordinary Time

Pay attention!

From today’s Scripture: “So, we have the prophetic message more fully confirmed. You will do well to be attentive to this as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.”2 Peter 1:19

There are nights when it is hard to sleep. I get out of bed and sit in my favorite chair with a single light on, trying to sort out why I am so restless. Peter’s letter reminds me that it is in these moments that I need to pay attention to the Word of the Lord. Some nights, the Lord may have an insight for me. Other nights, the Lord is simply present with me as a light shining in the darkness. How am I paying attention to the message of the Lord who is my Light right now?

Let us pray: Today, Lord, as I work on my to-do list, remind me that sitting with your Word lights my way.
