19th Friday in Ordinary Time

Gift of marriage

From today’s Scripture: “…so that they are no longer two, but one flesh.”—Mt 19:6

Marriage is a beautiful sacrament. Because it is a lifetime commitment it calls for lots of preparation: counseling, praying, and reflection. The day comes and in faith we take the great step. We pray that we are ready.

Of course, we all know that some marriages do not work out. Some people get married for the wrong reasons. They may feel that they were in love on their wedding day, but not so now. Divorce is painful; it breaks up families.

The Church has a healing process, the annulment process, that takes a close look at the couple’s real reason for marriage. Maybe the true love needed for this sacrament was not present on the wedding day.

God’s grace brings healing and the ability to guide us in our commitments.

Let us pray: Loving Lord, please help all married couples to find life and joy in their married lives.
