20th Saturday in Ordinary Time

Think small.

From today’s Scripture: “Whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”—Mt 23:12

A physical therapist (or her assistant) could tell you that little things add up. Sometimes one small exercise, repeated routinely, over time, can heal a very big problem. Yet we tend to think of little things as insignificant.

In the same way, Jesus reminds us, again and again, that little means big: the tiny mustard seed grows into the big bush, other seeds grow one-hundredfold for an amazing yield, people we deem unimportant are welcome and valuable. We often think the opposite, don’t we?

Let us pray: Lord, help me to think small today. Remind me that humility is what you desire.
