Invited to solidarity

From today’s Scripture: “Many are invited, but few are chosen”—Mt 22:14
The news blares: earthquakes in Haiti, destruction in Afghanistan—the news can cause us to feel helpless. We are invited to solidarity, but how can we do it? We are invited, but are we chosen? The saying of Jesus, “many are invited, but few are chosen” goes beyond any simple answer, for sure. But we all face the gospel invitation to be present to a bigger world than our household. Indeed God has chosen each of us, through Jesus, to act in love toward all.
Let us pray: Lord, inspire me with your love. Help me to move from fear to action, to be present to suffering in the world, to lend my hand to those who serve.
