Finding rest in God

From today’s Scripture: “His master said to him, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. Since you were faithful in small matters, I will give you great responsibilities. Come, share your master’s joy.’”—Mt 25:23
How beautiful those words must have rung in St. Augustine’s ears! Here was a man who completely turned his life around and ultimately used his talents to serve God.
What can we learn from his life? He showed us that it’s never too late to change our lives and start a new beginning no matter how far we have strayed from God. St. Augustine kept postponing his conversion but God never closed the door. God was there waiting for him with open arms. St. Augustine also taught us that only God can truly satisfy our deepest longings.
He voiced that truth in his words, “Our hearts are restless until they rest in you.” His heart resting in God set him on fire and led to a devoted life of service for God. What’s keeping us from changing our lives and starting a new beginning?
Let us pray: Lord, satisfy my hungry heart. Let it rest in you. Set me on fire for you alone.
