Gifts we are given

From today’s Scripture: “A man going on a journey called in his servants and entrusted his possessions to them… to each according to his ability.”—Mt 25:14
Today’s Parable of the Talents is about more than financial gain. God has blessed each one of us with different gifts. He expects us to use our gifts in his service.
Like the three servants, we do not have the same gifts. The return God expects is in proportion with the gifts given. In this parable, the servant who received one talent was not condemned for his failure to reach a five-talent goal. The servant was condemned because he did nothing with what he was given.
The hard consequences for the wasteful servant reminds us that we are to invest our lives in doing good, and not waste them in being content with ourselves.
Let us pray: Lord, give me the grace to appreciate all the gifts you have given me. Guide me to use them in the service of others, according to your will.
