Declaration

From today’s Scripture: “As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”—Jos 24:15
Buying a house these days is tough. My wife and I prayed that God would guide us and show us where he would want us to live. One day we found ourselves staring at this 102-year-old house! Exterior paint was peeling off. Gutters were clogged and leaky. Trees and bushes were overgrown. Foundation walls had cracks. Surprisingly, we both fell in love with the house and bought it.
We dedicated the restoration work to him with a public declaration. I knelt down to reach the joist underneath the floor and inscribed these words: “As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”
Public declaration is necessary to grow in faith. It conveys the values we want to uphold. It grounds us in God.
Let us pray: Lord, I place you in the center of my life. Help me to serve you by serving others. May they see you in my words and actions.
