Keep calm, and stay awake!

From today’s Scripture: “Stay awake! For you do not know on which day your Lord will come.”—Mt 24:42
Staying awake is really a way of life. It’s the spirituality of patient longing. The danger with staying awake is that we get anxious when whatever we’re staying awake for doesn’t come to us quickly.
No wonder Jesus tells us to guard our hearts from becoming drowsy from the anxieties of life. When we get anxious, we start to worry. Every time we worry, our faith erodes. When our faith erodes, we lose hope. And hope is the virtue we need the most.
Have you ever wondered if anything you’re doing makes much sense or is doing any good? Keep calm, and stay awake!
Let us pray: Lord, guard my heart from the anxieties of life. Help me nurture this virtue of hope, that I may stay focused on you in every season of life.
