Daily Reflection

21st Tuesday in Ordinary Time

True Gospel

From today’s Scripture: “‘Woe to you scribes and Pharisees…’”—Mt 23:13

We all are familiar with the phrase, “What you see is what you get.” A lot of times it rings true for us. Yet, in today’s Gospel it doesn’t!

The Pharisees present themselves as living virtuous lives on the outside. However, there is a real lack of true gospel values on the inside, they are “full of greed and self-indulgence.” Jesus tells them that the true gospel spirit is love, integrity, compassion and a sense of justice for all.

Living today, when image is so important, we too are often tempted to give more importance to appearances, to the outside rather than what is on the inside.

Let us pray: Lord, help guide me where I may need to change my priorities to yours, so that I might live a fuller life in your presence.  Amen.
