22nd Friday in Ordinary Time

New wine, new wineskins

From today’s Scripture: “‘Likewise, no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins, and it will be spilled, and the skins ruined.’”—Lk 5:37

There is a time and place for everything. Wisdom guides us to the right choices. New wine requires new wineskins. In other words, our new insights will likely require some other changes in our lives. If this wisdom is not followed, all is lost. How do you seek wisdom in your life? Experience teaches us a lot. Do we live daily seeking the wisest choices?

The new is not always the best. Aging the wine improves it. But using old wine skins destroys it. Where in our lives do we find wisdom and live under its influence? Guided by the spirit of wisdom we can find the way of peace, joy and love.

Let us pray: Spirit of wisdom, come and show us the way. Guide us to choice what is best. Lead us on the way to eternal life.
