Love one another.

From today’s Scripture: “Then he said to them, ‘The Son of Man is lord of the sabbath.’”—Lk 6:5
A group of old friends had gathered for a wedding, at church. They hadn’t seen each other, perhaps, since the last wedding, and there was joyful chatter in the place before the liturgy began. Really, there was the loving atmosphere that heralded the Lord’s presence, about to be celebrated in the unity of the couple, given by God’s grace, marked by the Eucharist which was its setting.
One of the church regulars was on hand though, governing the commotion. “Shhhh! You’re in church! No talking allowed!” Surely there is a place for silence in prayer, no doubt, but God loves laughter, too.
When Jesus says he is Lord of the Sabbath, he is saying he is Lord of all. He might not follow our rules all of the time!
Let us pray: God, help me to discern. Show me the times when I need to “fall into line,” and the times to be overtaken by your joy. Help me today to be your light to everyone I meet.
