Tradition!

From today’s Scripture: “For the Pharisees and, in fact, all Jews, do not eat without carefully washing their hands, keeping the tradition of the elders.”—Mk 7:3
In this time of pandemic and controversy over how to observe the best way to fight the virus, this verse reminds us that traditions regarding health and life are very ancient. Even as the Jews discussed whether or not Jesus’ followers were washing their hands, we discuss masks and other means to protect from illness.
Do we do this out of love and concern for our neighbors? Do we do it just because it is a mandate or law? Do we do it because it is tradition? Where do our priorities come from? Let’s examine our hearts and our responsibility toward our neighbors and make our decisions out of love.
Let us pray: Lord, open our hearts to guide us, even in making even the health and hygiene decisions in our lives, so that we always act in love. Help us in this time of pandemic to seek first the good of each human life.
