You duped me.

From today’s Scripture: “You duped me, O Lord.”—Jer 20:7
How many times have we felt the complaint from Jeremiah at the very beginning of today’s first reading. Jeremiah, like us, did his best to be faithful. Jeremiah took a stand for righteousness, Jeremiah did the right thing. But he was rejected for it.
Has that ever happened to you? Did you complain that something at work didn’t seem completely honest? Did you notice one of your friends cheating a bit, on one thing or another. Maybe you mentioned it? Maybe you stood for an unpopular political view? Surely you were not thrown into a pit, as was Jeremiah, but still, the sting of rejection can sometimes comes from standing up for principle. God knows you did the right thing! But sometimes, maybe we feel as if we were supposed to be rewarded instead of punished.
Let us pray: Loving God, help me today to stand for the principles you have put in my heart. Help me to persevere even when others oppose me.
