Fishing for souls

From today’s Scripture: “‘Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.’”—Lk 5:10
Jesus always shares his mission with us, just as he did with the Apostles. Be not afraid are words he uses often. He never leaves us in fear, but always seeks to be with us on the way as he sends us fishing for souls. To be a follower of Jesus is to be a missioner, a catcher of men and women.
We can only imagine how awesome it must have been for the apostles to hear the call from Jesus to be missioners. Are we today listening for that same call? Do we set aside fear and go forth with confidence, to bring in the catch he depends on us to make? Anyone who fishes knows it takes patience and perseverance. How are you fishing right now? Is Jesus close by enabling you to bring in the catch? Lower the nets and bring in all those Jesus desires.
Let us pray: Jesus, fisher of men and women, send me forth to cast nets and bring in those who will be your followers and missioners.
