23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time

“Be opened!”

From today’s Scripture: “He looked up to heaven and groaned, and said to him, ‘Ephphatha!’—that is, ‘Be opened!’—and immediately the man’s ears were opened, his speech impediment was removed, and he spoke plainly.”—Mk 7:35

With all the sad news that we hear in the media these days, we also should not miss good news about us. With the sadness come stories of hope, as people care for and support one another.

Jesus knows our sufferings: the flood or fire victim, the fear of being a refugee, or the pain of being alone. In the story of the deaf man, we hear of compassion and love.

Let us pray: Help us, Lord, to celebrate the good fortunes of others.Thank you for the many gifts that you bestow upon us.
