28th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Excited to love

From today’s Scripture:  As he was setting out on a journey, a man ran up, knelt down before him, and asked him, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”—Mark 10:17

This young man ran to Jesus and in front of everyone, fell at his feet, asking ardently “what must I do, good teacher?” When have you shown someone with such little self-possession and eagerness that you love them?

In this young man’s rush to seek God, Jesus saw a child’s guileless excitement and he loved him. Yet, Jesus’s love didn’t stop there; he then challenged the young man to remake his life further in the Father’s will. How can we lovingly challenge the people in our lives to be holy the way Jesus does?

Let us pray: Lord, you ask us to be like children, trusting our most vulnerable selves to you. Help us to be brave and keep our hearts open so that you can shape and mold us to be more like you.
