Daily Reflection

27th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Serve others.

From today’s Scripture: “‘We are unprofitable servants; we have done what we were obliged to do.’”—Lk 17:10

To be called a servant may not seem like a compliment; very few aspire to be called a servant. But, my friends, to be an unprofitable servant for the Lord is the greatest job possible. We came into the world to serve the Lord, to build the Kingdom of God.

In my own life, I find joy when I serve others. For 30 years I prepared a Thanksgiving dinner for many people from all backgrounds. Sometimes more than 100 attended. To see people from many backgrounds share a meal always has made my heart sing.To be a servant of the Lord is life giving!

Let us pray: Loving Lord, I want to serve you and the people of God. Today, Lord, I pray to be open to your call.
