Dignity of the human person

From today’s Scripture: “Even the hairs of your head have all been counted.”—Lk 12:7

We Catholic Christians are insistent that every single human life is sacred, and must be protected from conception to natural death. Sadly, that seems to be a minority opinion in our country at present.

So we have work to do, and we must be consistent. We defend life from abortion, euthanasia, cloning and embryonic stem cell research, and from other threats such as the death penalty and war. The US Bishops teach that “the measure of every institution is whether it threatens or enhances the life and dignity of the human person.”

Let us pray: Lord, help me today to see the big picture, the connections among all that works against life.
