The dignity of work

From today’s Scripture: “For freedom Christ set us free; so stand firm and do not submit again to the yoke of slavery.”—Gal 5:1
The deepest social change happens when those who suffer a particular injustice have a voice in bringing about the solution. In that light the Church supports the rights of workers to improve their working conditions by joining unions or worker associations.
The Church also teaches that work is more than a way to make a living; it is a means of participation in God’s creation, and should reflect our inherent human dignity. Therefore the economy must serve people, not the other way around.
Let us pray: Lord, help me to view my work and the work of others today through the lens of my Catholic Christian faith.
