Extras

From today’s Scripture: “He asked himself, ‘What shall I do, for I do not have space to store my harvest?’”—Lk 12:17
If you’re reading this, you probably are a person of extras. We live in a land of extras. Maybe our house is pretty big. Maybe we waste a lot of food (most people in this country do). We need a car to get around in this culture, but do we need the layers of luxury that advertising tells us we need? We may not be building extra barns, but are we renting storage spaces for things we just can’t let go of?
Let’s consider the challenge that Jesus gives us today: What we have, in a sense, belongs to everyone.
Let us pray: God, you know my heart. You know my desire to love. Help me today to see past the attractions of the extras in my life and to share generously.
