The narrow gait

From today’s Scripture: “‘Lord, will only a few people be saved?’ He answered them, ‘Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I tell you, will attempt to enter but will not be strong enough.’”—Lk 13:24
As a child and as an adult, often my pride has discouraged me from asking for assistance. How many times have I stubbornly tried to do something by myself but failed?
In today’s readings, we could be very discouraged if we only listen to the Gospel. Jesus is very blunt that many will attempt to enter through the narrow gate but will fail. However, in the first reading, Paul reminds us that we don’t have to do it alone. Paul tells us “The Spirit comes to the aid of our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes with inexpressible groanings.” As we struggle with daily challenges, let’s remember to seek his help.
Let us pray: Holy Spirit, please shepherd me today. Help me to find ways to enter the narrow gate.
