Memorial of St. Martin of Tours

God is love.

From today’s Scripture: “Let all your works give you thanks, O LORD, and let your faithful ones bless you.”—Ps 145:10

How often do we stop and thank God? Or thank the people in our lives who have influenced us in so many ways for the good? Today’s Psalm is a reminder that all of creation sings thanks to God, and that we even bless the Lord.

But why would God need our blessing? The Church teaches that blessing God means adoration of God, thanksgiving to God, surrender to God as the author of our lives. We do that more for our sake than for God’s, but that is the dynamic of love, love’s very nature: we each give, and we each receive. In our surrender we open ourselves to God, our lover, who delights in our presence.

Let us pray: Thank you, God, for everything that you give to me. I delight in your presence! Be with me as I go about my day. Keep me tuned to your loving ways.
