Readiness

From today’s Scripture: “Jesus said, ‘All that you see here–the days will come when there will not be left a stone upon another stone that will not be thrown down.’” —Luke 21:6
Do we live in the end times? The readings at the end of the liturgical year tend to frame the world in apocalyptic terms. We may be filled with fear, looking around our world thinking the Scriptures are being fulfilled, that we are indeed in the end times.
Fear should not be the basis for our relationship with Jesus. Rather we need to be like the wise servants whom Jesus will find watching when he comes, whether that be the end of the world, or more likely our personal death. As my mom used to tell us, “Always be ready to go!”
Let us pray: Lord Jesus, give me the grace to be that wise and faithful servant, who lives not in fear but in the confidence of your love. Help me, today, to know that I am a pilgrim here on this earthly journey, that my true home is the joy of your Kingdom.
