Sound instruction
From today’s Scripture: “Philip opened his mouth and, beginning with this Scripture passage, he proclaimed Jesus to him.”—Acts 8:35
We Catholics tend to get squirmy about one-on-one witnessing, in other words, personal evangelization. The saying attributed to St. Francis, “Preach the Gospel at all times; if necessary, use words” suits us fine.
But while personal example is the best instructor (as any parent knows), sometimes words are needed—as in today’s dramatic conversion story from Acts. As an adult convert to Catholicism, I relate to the Ethiopian eunuch’s need for sound instruction, before he can jump in.
Let us pray: Lord, thank you for the depth, beauty, and truth of Catholic teaching.
