Body and Blood of Jesus

Body and Blood of Jesus

Thank you, Jesus.

From today’s Scripture: “‘I am the living bread that came down from heaven, whoever eats this bread will live forever.’” (Alleluia verse, Jn 6:51)

Corpus Christi, we called this feast in earlier days. There were processions through the streets of many cities—this was a public witness to the Holy Eucharist. The bishops of Vatican II called the Eucharist the “source and summit” of Catholic worship; we believe the Eucharist is truly the presence of Christ among us.

Every time we go to Mass, we celebrate the Real Presence of Jesus in three ways: through the gathering of the worshiping community, through the proclamation of God’s word, and through the real Body and Blood of Jesus at Holy Communion. This presence is what missioners strive to bring to people who have never been offered this fullness of God among us.

Let us pray: Lord, thank you for the gift of the Eucharist. Help me to live in your love and be your presence in the world today.
