Chair of St. Peter

Guidance of the Spirit

From today’s Scripture: “The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I lack.”—Ps 23:1

We are familiar with someone being the chair of a meeting. The chairperson, the chair, has the authority and responsibility as leader for accomplishing the work of the group. As Catholic Christians, we look to the Pope who sits on the Chair of Peter to help us respond to the Spirit’s guidance in our time. Many of us at times are the chair, the leader, of a group. It may be a family, a group of friends or classmates, or a business.

Psalm 23 speaks of the presence of a loving God who accompanies and provides for us as we fulfill our chairing responsibilities. Today, take a few moments to reread all of Psalm 23 slowly. Reflect on where you find yourself amid life’s responsibilities and what you need from the Lord.

Are you in the “valley of darkness” needing to see a light? Are you “sitting by still waters” needing silence and refreshment? Are you “holding a cup that is overflowing,” needing to give thanks?

Let us pray: Lord, amid my responsibilities of leadership today I trust that you will provide me with what I need. Help me be acutely aware of your presence as my shepherd every day.
