Chair of St. Peter

Who is Jesus to you?

From today’s Scripture: “But, who do you say that I am?” Mt 16:15

Imagine yourself in the middle of doing what you do each day when you feel a tap on your shoulder. You look up and see Jesus. He looks into your eyes and asks you, “Who do you say that I am?” I can hear myself stuttering and spouting every name of Jesus I have ever learned. “You are the Prince of Peace, King of Kings, the Messiah, the Son of God, Our Lord and Savior.” The list would go on and on. He smiles and says, “I am pleased that you listened and learned your lessons, but who am I to you?” What will your response be?

I came across a song/poem written by our Sister Mary Joseph Wade. I believe it was her response to Jesus’ question. I will share a few verses.

When I was young I met my love. While still young my love called me.

Together through life, together in prayer, together contented to be.

In the midst of my work I find my love. Mid labors my love can find me. Together when busy, together in prayer, together contented to be.

When I’m silent I find my love. When alone my love can find me. Together in peace, together in prayer, together contented to be.

When I am ready, I’ll hear my love. When He is ready my love will find me. Together in life, together in death, together contented to be.

Let us pray: Lord, you are my anchor, my love, my joy, my peace, my friend, my everything. You are my God who loves me. Help me to continue to grow in my knowledge and love of you. Help me to express who you are to me not only in words but also through my actions and relationships. I desire a deeper relationship with you.
