¡Viva Cristo Rey!

From today’s Scripture: “‘Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.’”—Lk 23:42
The so-called good thief said these words in the Gospel of Luke. “¡Viva Cristo Rey!” (“Long live Christ the King!”) became the cry of the Cristeros in Mexico in their battle for religious freedom. These words also came from Blessed Miguel Pro as he was martyred with hands outstretched, as on a cross.
Jesus as King of the Universe is the strength of those battling injustice of any kind. Jesus dying on the cross is the divine leader taking on the sins and evils in the world. He leads his followers in battle and gives them the strength they need. Today he is with those like the Ukrainians fighting the battle for their nation. He is king of the just and of those in any battle for justice.
Let us pray: ¡Viva Cristo Rey! You are my king and my God. Be my strength today and guide me in the battle for good. Remember me and those I care for. Bring us justice and peace now and forever.
