Christmas

For all people

From today’s Scripture: “Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all people.” —Lk 2:10

I have traveled twice to Bethlehem and prayed in the shepherd’s cave and fields. Yet, this year, all celebrative traditions of Christmas in Bethlehem are on hold because of the war. Jesus’ birth was also under stress and without a roof over his head. There was fear in the air. Yet, the shepherds were surrounded by angels singing and joy was proclaimed. Why? Because the answer to the world’s conflict is knowing that Jesus is for all people in Gaza, in Jerusalem and Bethlehem, in Ukraine and Russia, or wherever. No need to fear because love was born on this day.

Let us pray: Child of Peace, Glory of the Angel’s Song, recognized by shepherds in the fields, be with us today. Ease our fear and bring us peace through your love.
