Christmas Weekday

Knowledge of God

From today’s Scripture:  We have this confidence in God, that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in regard to whatever we ask, we know that what we ask for is ours.—1 Jn 5:14-15

Perhaps the most remarkable thing about this passage is not that God hears us, but that God gives us the knowledge of his will. To know the will of God is, by its simplicity, to know God. We know God not by giving the right answer to a test. Instead we know God as we know a person. This is a knowledge that goes ever deeper, even to the heart of the infinite God.

Let us pray: Infinite and loving Lord, I know you not in secret but in Christ. Help me to pray today—and mean it—“Thy will be done.”
