Serving with joy

From today’s Scripture: “But it shall not be so among you. Rather, whoever wishes to be great among you will be your servant; whoever wishes to be first among you will be the slave of all.”—Mk 10:43-44
Nothing has taught me more about servanthood than being a parent. There is so much humility necessary to clean food off the floor for the third time that day. The hardest part for me, though, is serving with joy and not in frustration.
Each time we take on the spirit of servanthood is an opportunity to unite ourselves more closely with Christ, who served even his betrayer with love as he washed his feet.
Let us pray: Lord Jesus, thank you for coming to serve us. Help me to be a servant to those I meet today.
