Light of the world
From today’s Scripture: “Nations shall walk by your light, and kings by your shining radiance.”—Is 60:3
One part of the liturgical rite at Baptism signifies the pilgrim life of a Christian. That is, a life of carrying the light in a dark world. “Receive this light and may it be found burning at Christ’s return,” are the words of the rite. We all will hear this message later this year when the Exultet is chanted at Easter Vigil.
Epiphany, brothers and sisters, is about the light that came to the world. It came that we may see, and that we may fall in love with the things divine that we see in the world. Jesus is the sun that illumines the heart of the believer. Jesus, the Son of God, is here with us, in the suffering, the poor and those on the fringes of the society. How do we worship him? How do we fall in love with him? By seeing and falling in love with those around us.
Let us pray: May God bless us with enough foolishness to believe that we can make a difference to bring light to all our children and the poor.
