Exaltation of the Cross

Accepting Jesus’ love

From today’s Scripture: “God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him.”—Jn 3:17

An old man used to sit for hours holding a crucifix. Holding it gave him peace and fulfillment. He was not holding the suffering of Jesus, though. He knew how horribly Jesus suffered on that instrument of execution. He held the love Jesus had for him when Jesus freely chose to die for him. Accepting and feeling that love was prayer enough for him.

What do you feel when you hold the cross? What is Jesus saying to you personally? What do you want to say to him?

Let us pray: Jesus, open my heart to feel the love you have for me even now.
