“Blessed are you among women….”

From today’s Scripture: “Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?—Lk 1:39-56
Today’s Gospel includes the Magnificat, Mary’s beautiful words where she proclaims the greatness of God. But hers isn’t the only profession of faith. Elizabeth’s profession, “blessed are you among women…” comes first. When I think of the Visitation, I think of Elizabeth’s special experience. She was the first to recognize Mary as Mother of the Savior.
Today, we Catholics often turn to Mary for intercession, owing to her privileged role. How is it that the Mother of our Lord should intercede for us? It’s an amazing thing. Jesus gave us Mary as our mother, and through her we can remain united with him.
Let us pray: Mary, like you, may our souls proclaim the greatness of the Lord. Intercede for us that we may grow to have a faith like yours in God our Savior.
