Proclaim with Mary

From today’s Scripture: “From this day all generations will call me blessed: the Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is his Name.”—Lk 1:48-49
Mary’s response to Elizabeth in today’s Gospel is known as the Magnificat, “an utterance of praise.” What strikes me most about Mary’s prayer is that she always points the praise back to God. She could have taken credit for herself: God chose me to be the mother of God. But she doesn’t, she glorifies God and credits him for the blessings he has given her. Throughout her life, Mary remains steadfast in pointing others toward God the Father and Jesus, her son.
In our response to God’s work in our lives, may we proclaim with Mary: the Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is his Name.
Let us pray: Lord God, thank you for lifting up Mary as an example of holiness. Help me today to imitate her steadfast faithfulness in you.
