Our family in Christ

From today’s Scripture: “Whoever says he is in the light, but hates his brother, is still in the darkness.” —1 Jn 2:9
Every person is a child of God, and every baptized person is my brother or sister. I grew up in a house of ten with one bathroom, which was also the laundry room. We had to learn to negotiate with each other just to take care of our basic human needs.
The earth is the shared space for all of humanity, and we need to negotiate with each other, so every person’s basic human needs are met. If we are to live in the light, we need to recognize that we are all brothers and sisters, we all have needs, and, as a human family sharing the planet, we can help each other have those needs met. The ability and willingness to negotiate in love will keep us all out of the darkness.
Let us pray: Lord help me overcome my selfishness, my biases or judgments of others, and anything that blinds me to seeing every person as part of my family. Forgive me from my sins and lead me to the light.
