Surprised by the truth

From today’s Scripture: “To you I have entrusted my cause.”—Jer 20:12
It is human to complain to God if one is mistreated. Yet the trust in God prevails, because God is always with the poor and those who place their faith in God.
The chapter preceding today’s reading in Jeremiah compares the siege that will beset Jerusalem to a broken potter’s flask. After his arrest by those who did not want to hear prophecy, Jeremiah enters into a deep crisis of self-confidence.
We have our own confidence crisis today. At this time last year we were facing a pandemic. Today we see hope of its end, but there is a new phase in which restrictions and masks are universal. The abnormal has become normal.
Let us pray: O Lord Jesus, help me place my trust in you. Give me confidence that, even as the things change around me, that you are always with me. In these final days of Lent, help me, Lord, to contemplate what you are facing. Please let me be your friend on the way to Golgotha.
