Prayer for the day

From today’s Scripture: “Rising very early before dawn, he left and went off to a deserted place, where he prayed.” —Mk 1:35
It is said that a sister in Mother Teresa’s order came to her and suggested that they shorten their hour of prayer in the morning to have more time to care for the poor. Mother Teresa thought about it and instead decided to double their prayer time. And because of their extra hour in prayer, the sisters were actually able to care for even more people than before!
So often when we are busy, prayer is the first thing on the list to go. But in today’s Gospel, even in the midst of healing people and doing good, Jesus knows the importance of setting aside time to pray. When we pray, we receive the grace to do all that is necessary for the day.
Let us pray: Lord, I take this moment to sit and be with you. Be with me today, and let every little task be done with your love.
