Holy desire

From today’s Scripture: “Elkanah, her husband, would say to her: ‘Hannah, why are you weeping? Why are you not eating? Why are you so miserable? Am I not better for you than 10 sons?’”—1 Sam 1:8
I hear God asking me that same question now. Not that I want 10 sons! We have many desires within us, pulling us in many directions. Some are holy desires from God. Some are not from God and we must discern where they would lead us. Holy desires will lead us to feel closer to God and to experience faith, hope and love.
I know when a desire is not from God: I want to hide it from holy people in my life. Following it makes me feel less close to God. Holy desires are exactly opposite!
Let us pray: Lord, you are generosity itself, you want to grant all our holy desires. Help me to learn to discern when it is your desires within me that I may follow them and grow closer to you.
