First Saturday in Ordinary Time

Daily Reflection

First Saturday in Ordinary Time

First comes forgiveness.

From today’s Scripture: “‘I did not come to call the righteous but sinners.’”— Mk 2:17

For the proud and haughty, these words of Christ will be rejected. They will reject being called a sinner. So they walk away from the mercy of God. It is only when our head is bowed and our heart is softened that we can approach Jesus for forgiveness. Only when we are mature enough that we can say, “I am a sinful man or woman, I need your mercy.”

Only then can the Holy Spirit call us to follow Jesus, to do the things Jesus has done, to care about people starving, from lack of food, water, a place to live when I have so much!

Let us pray: Father, today, touch my hardened heart. Soften my ego, that I may be sight for the blind, ears for the deaf, strength for the feeble, legs for the cripple. Strengthen me to be a follower of Jesus.
