How deep is your love?

From today’s Scripture: “But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for he makes the sun rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the just and the unjust.” —Mt 5:44-45
As I read this passage, I found myself humming the song “How Deep is Your Love?” by the Bee Gees. Jesus is telling us that the quality and quantity of our love must be rich and deep. This is a hard teaching. If I could smack them first, then it might be easier to love my enemies. What a pure human reaction! Jesus knows this is hard for us because we filter everything through our human eyes. We see cruel, mean, hateful people. He sees children of the Father and the love the Father has for them. Because we are loved by the Father, we must love others, even our enemies.
Let us pray: Lord, teach me to love like you.
